Hey, I'm Jérémy!
I'm French 🇫🇷, and I mainly work with C#. I'm really excited about what's going on in the dotnet community (note to future readers: .net 6.0 will be there in a few month) and I'd like to contribute to the ecosystem.
What am I doing right now
Contributing to LibVLCSharp.
Created Ooak, a C# library for type union and oneOf/anyOf/allOf
Being president of my chess club
What I did in the past
Maintaining Vlc.DotNet
Got married in 2020 👫 (Check out our wedding website !)
What motivates me
Getting constructive feedback from my users 🙂
Resolving challenging issues 🐛
Writing fast and maintainable code ⚡
Teaching code 👨🏫
Future plans
Building my house (in progress)
Writing a code generator framework for OpenApi to replace NSwag
Writing an open-source plugin manager library for .NET : Install plugins for your app from a NuGet repository. (Help wanted!) 📦
Writing a modular open-source chess tournament manager. PAPI, a French application that does just that is closed-source and runs .NET 3.5, which makes it hard to use on other platforms like Linux. (Help wanted!) ♟️
Funding philosophy
I'm using free and open-source software on a daily basis. It has allowed me to achieve great things, and contributing back is a great way to say "thank you!". It makes the software better for everyone.
But volunteering takes (a lot of) time and many maintainers give up because they don't have time to spend on the project anymore.
Some developers want to make their users pay for their open-source software. I think that forcing users to pay for software destroys the user base, and that the user base is really important for open source software.
I think that the GitHub Sponsor program is a good alternative, which keeps the developers motivated, while giving the opportunity for users to show support for the project they use and depend on.
Misc trivia about me
I like both Windows and Linux, it just depends on what I'm working on at the time. 🐧
I love C# and I like Typescript. I also like milk chocolate. 😋
I hate the "modern" web stacks that force you to install 50+ packages just to print Hello World. Things should not be that complicated. 🤷♂️
I love to understand how things work. 🔍
I finished 42nd at a coding competition in France. I was then awarded a Hello Kitty egg. 😅
With my team, we won the French high school chess championship! 🏆
My wife has some disabilities (dyslexia, dyspraxia...). She gives talks about that around France, and I'm proud of her.👩
