In recent years we have seen a wide range of organizations abuse personal information in a way which resulted in people losing their online privacy and personal freedom, increased micro-targeting and misinformation for both commercial and political purposes, and increasingly addictive digital experiences. These trends are all made possible by the widespread collection of and trade in personal information.
Our flagship project is YourDigitalRights.org, a free and open source service which helps people regain control of their online privacy by instructing organizations to send a copy of, or delete their personal information. More then 15,000 requests are sent each month via the service, and each request sent makes a difference. Here is why:

It allows individuals to take back ownership of their personal information, online privacy and personal freedom.
It sends organizations an important message that people care about your personal privacy.
Processing each request incurs a cost to the organization. It might be small, but when many people send requests these costs add up. This makes it overall less profitable to collect personal information in the first place.
