Hi, I'm Tim. I make things using the collections of libraries, archives and museums. Some of these things, like the GLAM Workbench or Historic Hansard, are serious research tools. Other things, like The Real Face of White Australia or redacted, have a political point. And then there's the weird stuff, like The Vintage Face Depot.
I make things because I want to help people understand the possibilities of GLAM (gallery, library, archive, and museum) collections. I want to help you get access to data, to develop your own digital skills, to workaround obstacles, and to extend your research in new directions.
That's why my main project at the moment is the development of the GLAM Workbench that brings together tools, tutorials, code, examples, ideas, and data relating to a growing range of GLAM collections. If you want to start exploring collections as data, or even just pick up a little hint to help with your research, this is the place to start!
Pretty much all my work is public by default – I share code and data, I give talks and workshops, I write blog posts and tutorials. This isn't going to change. You'll always have access to my work whether you support me here or not. But I'm hoping that with your support I'll be able to spend more time making, sharing, and teaching. So if you've used one of my tools, learnt from one of my workshops, or just think what I do is worthwhile, you might like to pitch in.
