Hi, I'm Darren!
I am a full stack software developer based in the UK, primarily building WordPress sites for clients. I started WP Manager as a passion project to help automate routine maintenance tasks for the agency I work for. I quickly realised the opportunity to make something more widely available and thus, WP Manager was born!
So, what is WP Manager?
WP Manager is an app to help monitor and maintain WordPress sites at scale. It's primary goal is to reduce the time spent on repetative maintenance tasks and focus on letting you know when things aren't quite right.
Why WP Manager? Why not WPMU Dev, Manage WP or another solution?
WP Manager was not made to directly compete against these well-established solutions. I think what these guys are doing is great and provide valuable services.
This project was started because the existing solutions couldn't achieve everything we wanted to automate for my agency. Whilst some had the ability to be extended, it would still come at a cost and I couldn't guarantee the granularity of control. In addition, there was a need to install a proprietary plugin (or many, depending on the platform) which I didn't like. WordPress has a secure and robust REST API that, in my mind, can serve these needs already. This is the core focus for this project - to use the existing and tested APIs, leveraging the secure and standardised practises that every WordPress site has built in as standard.
WP Manager is helpful out of the box but it's designed to be open source and extendable, allowing you to make this app work for you or your business. It only uses the native WordPress REST API to work and doesn't give users any magic ability to perform tasks that the user account for the individual site couldn't do already.
