WiX Toolset Open Source Maintenance Fee
Open source software is free to use, but maintaining a healthy open source project takes real, ongoing work.
Maintainers spend time and effort on things like:
Triaging issues and discussions
Keeping build and release infrastructure working
Updating dependencies and responding to security reports
Producing and signing releases
Managing spam and abuse
And many other essential tasks
The Open Source Maintenance Fee is a simple, sensible way to fund that work. It creates a direct feedback loop between organizations that rely on the project and the people maintaining it.
If you or your organization generate revenue and rely on this project’s maintained releases, please select the monthly tier that matches the size of your organization.
FAQ
Q: Who is expected to pay the Maintenance Fee?
Organizations, individuals, and government agencies that generate revenue and rely on projects using an Open Source Maintenance Fee are expected to participate.
Projects that adopt the Maintenance Fee are also expected to pay the fees required by their own dependencies.
Q: Do we need to pay the fee for each product we ship?
No. The fee applies per organization. A single payment covers all products and uses within that organization.
Q: What if our organization makes money, but the product using the project is free?
The Maintenance Fee is based on whether the organization generates revenue, not whether a specific product is sold or offered for free.
Q: Can we pay yearly or by invoice?
Yes. GitHub Sponsors supports invoicing and annual payments. See the GitHub invoice documentation for details.
Q: Do newer versions require an additional fee?
No. While the fee is active, you are entitled to all available versions of the project.
You can find more details in the Open Source Maintenance Fee FAQ.
