Hello! I'm Ulf.
I'm a Research Software Engineer in Berlin 🐻🇩🇪, and my current work is about developing web apps to label ground truth data, and persistent storage of corpus data and linguistic annotations. And as a consequence my technological interests are focused on Vue.js, Postgres, FastAPI, PyTorch, and Keras.
Due to my background in engineering design, I strongly believe that the tasks from dreaming up an idea to the product launch consume an increasing amount of time. It's unavoidable, and the questions is more about finding clever ways to cope with it.

It takes microseconds for an idea to emerge in your brain.
It takes 5-60 seconds to preserve the quickly fading idea with pen & paper
It takes 1-3 hours to code a quick & dirty prototype in a jupyter notebook
It takes 7-21 days to publish a tested production-ready pypi micro package

One downside of developing open-source software is the maintenance part what is the reason why I prefer micro packages. The next exciting project is just around the corner so that developers lose interest in past adventures. I'm trying to give my old projects a maintenance session at least once per year because other people might use and rely on them.
