We are small group of developers who have banded together as a not-for-profit specializing in the development and support of open-source software solutions for the electric power industry, see Grid Protection Alliance.
STTP is designed as a publish-subscribe style data transfer protocol optimized for exchanging streaming time-series style data, such as synchrophasor data. The protocol supports transferring both real-time, on change and historical time-series data at full or down-sampled resolutions. The protocol also supports the exchange of extensible meta-data.
Protocol benefits are realized at scale when multiplexing very large numbers of time-series data points at high speed, such as, hundreds of times per second per data point. Ideal use cases for STTP will include those that need to securely exchange large numbers of continuously measured data. Currently the protocol is undergoing standardization as IEEE 2664.
We want to make sure high quality, fully open source, MIT-licensed reference implementations of STTP exist for immediate industry use and are looking for sponsors to help facilitate the development of new API language targets, e.g., for Python and Rust.
