I've been a professional software engineer for 13 years, working on everything from microcontroller firmware, FPGA cores, large scale encrypted storage systems, networking code in the Linux kernel, iOS, Mac, and Android apps.
Now I'm working on turning Open.HD into a high reliability / fault tolerant, easy to use digital video platform for UAVs. We have a lot of awesome things we want to do in the next 6-12 months, some of them are listed here but there are many others too.
What I'm working on:
The multi-platform QOpenHD app
A free and easy to use digital FPV app that runs on everything from embedded Linux boards, to mobile phones, laptops and even Android TV devices such as the low cost Fire TV stick.
Designed to manage the Open.HD system, manage the settings and soon to support offline remote upgrades of the air and ground stations.
Open.HD
User support, fixing problems that people encounter
Modernizing the build system to support in-place upgrades, a stable bugfix-only release channel, and rapid release of updates
Adding support for new hardware platforms, like the Nvidia Jetson, including hardware driver development to support the newer camera sensors and other devices that people have been using on the Raspberry Pi
Reliability assurance for the video and telemetry through static analysis checks on the code, realtime process support, isolating critical components from each other, strict control over video bitrate and latency
Auto-configuration when connecting different UAVs to the ground station, which might have different hardware connected and require the ground side to reconfigure itself to match
Live camera configuration, auto-detection and external camera control (PWM/GPIO)
A "virtual gimbal" using RC control or head tracking, for UAVs that have a 360deg camera onboard or a mechanical gimbal
Much, much more, have a look at the project roadmap
