Apache Maven is a build management tool, being used by 65-85% of all Java Projects/Java developers.
This project contains about 90 source-repositories with a codebase of over 2.2 million lines of code.
However, it is maintained by only 5-10 active volunteers, there's no company behind Maven.
Maven is far from finished, even though it is around for a long time. Currently most time is spent on fixing bug, but we have huge ambitions for Maven 4 and 5. E.g. the current architecture makes it hard to do adjustments to the pom file, blocking required improvements. It is possible to change this, but that requires a redesign of handling pomfiles in Maven Core.
