Hi! I am a long time fan and contributor to open source software. Lately I have found Clojure and most of my free time is spent with providing Visual Studio Code users with a Clojure and ClojureScript development environment: Calva.
Rationale:
If you are using VS Code, I think you have made an absolutely excellent choice of editor, and I want to contribute such that you have nice, productive, and supported, Clojure and ClojureScript environment there.
In working with Calva, and using Clojure, I also contribute to various Clojure and Clojure tooling projects, plus I create content and guides aimed at helping beginners to Clojure have a great experience. (See Get Started with Clojure for an example.) Thus, even if you are not a VS Code user, I just might have fixed some bug, or helped improve some feature, in some library or tool you are using. And I might have helped some friend of yours to get smitted by Clojure.
Why Should you Sponsor me?
Firstly it would be because you appreciate the work I do with Calva, and/or my efforts to create a delightful Clojure beginner experience. Important enough to warrant the sweat, and worries that follows with providing others with tools that become important to their development workflow.
For some of you it might be that you find that, by working on Calva, I have contributed to more joyful Clojure and ClojureScript development. I might even have helped you be more profitable.
Open source is a labour of love, and at a romantic level I do believe that love is all you need. However, in the physical reality, it doesn't put food on the table, or enable me to buy nice presents to my loved ones. The latter there is the most important, as I do have a day time job, which enables me to contribute to food and housing for my family.
Until I can work solely with Calva (which I would love to do!) I will use any sponsor money for three things:
Afford my morning coffee. I often start my days with half an hour of Calva development at some café.
Buy hardware, software, courses and books that help me to be productive with Calva development.
Purchase presents to my wife and kids. Keeping them friendly to Calva, with which they so generously share me.
Please consider sponsoring me, and please consider talking to your boss about your company sponsoring me.
Happy Coding! ❤️
NB: If you like Calva, please note that we are four developers engaging deeply in the project: Me, Brandon Ringe, Cora Sutton, and Lukas Domagala. Please consider supporting them as well.
