Although the project will periodically get contributions from developers who are paid to work on a feature, the bulk of the work of maintaining the project (reviewing contributions, fixing bugs, cutting releases, triaging tickets) is done on a volunteer basis. Because of this, we usually accrue a backlog of issues and ideas for improvements over time.
We have found that it is good for the health of the project to periodically get a group of contributors together to work on the project in concentrated sprints. Your financial contributions to the project will be maintained in our Open Collective account until we reach a level where we can support participation in one of these sprints – offsetting things like the cost of travel and accommodations so contributors can work on the project together in person.
