GitHub Sponsors Profile
Hi, I'm mrluc.
I'm a long-time software maker and contributor to open source, and I want to spend more time doing high-quality open-source work. So, setting up this profile is a step in the direction of making that more sustainable.
what I'd like to do more of: high-quality open-source work.
As an example, with elixir-lang, I used my 'shop time' on Friday afternoons to test the 'Trojan Source' CVE, identify a weakness in Elixir, dive into the Unicode spec and the Elixir language, create a reference implementation of UTS39 protections in Elixir based on studying the Rust implementation, and provide the 3 primary protections in separate PR's (example) working with the language's creator.
There are all sorts of things I'd like to finish like this. I frequently do similarly deep dives that produce promising results, because it's fun for me -- but, since I work mostly as a "contract IC" in order to maintain a healthy work-life balance with room for the non-software parts of life, dedicating more time to open source mostly competes with paid work.
what I've mostly done up until now: closed-source work.
"My cup runneth over". Right now, and for the past 20 years, I've worked remotely, mostly as a solo actor with agencies, and occasionally as a high-agency employee with SaaS companies.
It's always in IC roles, with the highest levels of ownership, because I like making things! All sorts of things: full-stack products and mobile apps, for industries as diverse as: shoes, insurance, airlines, pharma, materials science -- this past year, a few much-loved 'AI Apps Platforms' for bigcos. I helped out with SaaS M&A a bit as well and that was fun.
when sponsored, I will be obliged to do more high-quality open-source work.
Really. Obliged!
And I'd like to create some things, open-source, that Sponsors could get early access to. That might be a clean way to transition to more open-source work.
If you'd want to wait until I have more concrete proposals, well, I wouldn't blame you.
However, I need this filled out to sign up on Stripe. All the best, ❤️
