Hi, I'm Jonathan!
I love open source and would like to work more on it. One of my dreams has always been to be able to make a living with just contributing to open source projects. But unfortunately, proprietary software is what pays my bills right now.
I love Objective-C and portable software - hence I brought Objective-C to pretty much every 32 and 64 bit system by starting ObjFW, on which I worked for 10 years now! Of course, this is a never ending rabbit hole, as it also requires building an entire ecosystem. A lot of work for a single person - especially if that person also needs to have a day job!
Over the last 15+ years, I also contributed to plenty of open source projects as a regular committer. These include Audacious, Gajim, Haiku and pkgsrc, to name a few.
I'm realistic and I don't think I'll ever be able to live on sponsorships - but maybe, just maybe, I might some day be able to reduce my day job to 80% and work one day a week only on open source 🙂.
