I volunteer as a co-maintainer and co-administrator of the projects under the open source community called DSC Community which have ~70 projects. The open source projects in DSC Community focus around the management platform Desired State Configuration (DSC) and open source tooling for effectively develop for existing and new projects and organizations.
DSC enables an organization to manage IT infrastructure using configuration as code. As a maintainer I regularly help users with issues. review code, improve tooling, update documentation and improve the DSC resource throughout the open source projects. I also contribute to other open source projects that is part of the tooling we use to improve for example the CI/CD pipeline.
The open source work I do on my free time is far from what I do in my regular job. But it is a way to keep myself up-to-date with what's happening in and around technology and tooling, but mostly, it’s fun!
However, even if I think this is fun and won't stop in the foreseeable future, it takes money to invest in hardware, electric bill, and cloud services that I use to develop new things but also when trying to reproduce issues that users are experiencing which sometimes requiring multiple VM's running.
I love working with people around the world, contributing to these open source projects and I intend to continue contributing and interacting with the community through different channels. I hope the GitHub Sponsoring program can give other people in the community a chance to say thanks for the work I put in, and maybe it will help with the electric bill. That would be cool.
