Support GemPy: Empowering Open-Source Geoscience
Welcome to the GemPy Sponsors page! Originating from the CGRE Institute at RWTH Aachen University, GemPy has evolved to become a key tool within the open-source geoscience ecosystem, valuable for both research and practical applications. To sustain and expand GemPy's impact, and continue delivering substantial value to its users and the broader open-source community, we invite you to support our efforts through our new sponsorship program.
🚀 Our Journey
GemPy was created as part of a Ph.D. project at the Institute for Computational Geoscience and Reservoir Engineering (CGRE) at the RWTH Aachen University, Germany, co-created by Miguel de la Varga and Prof. Florian Wellmann, Ph.D., and first published on GitHub in July 2017. It has since garnered a significant user base, received contributions from diverse geoscientists and developers, and has been used in numerous scientific works and real-world applications worldwide. As our community expands, so does our ambition to improve and grow GemPy’s capabilities.
🤝 Current Team & Organizational Structure Behind GemPy
Currently, the primary responsibilities for further developing and maintaining GemPy are shared between the CG3 Institute (formerly CGRE) and Terranigma Solutions. Terranigma Solutions, a spinoff startup from the same research group, was co-founded by the original authors along with early users and contributors of GemPy. This collaborative effort underscores our commitment to advancing geoscience research and the open-source geoscience software ecosystem. You can learn more about the team behind GemPy on our website.
🌱 Why Your Support Matters
As GemPy has grown in scale and user base, so has the intensity of support it requires. While GemPy is an important project, it is maintained alongside other commitments by both the CG3 Institute and Terranigma Solutions. This situation presents challenges in providing the level of development, maintenance, and support necessary for our expanding community. To truly maximize the value GemPy provides and ensure its continued growth, we envision a future where it thrives supported by both contributions from the open-source community and full-time dedicated staff. This is where your support becomes crucial!
👥 Join Us in Shaping the Future
By sponsoring GemPy, you're not just funding a project; you're investing in the future of open-source geoscience tools. Our goals with your sponsorship include:
Short-term: Employing dedicated staff to enhance and support GemPy.
Mid-term: Creating a nonprofit organization focused on supporting open-source geoscience efforts, which will lead the future development and maintenance of GemPy.
Long-term: Ensuring GemPy remains free and open for all users, fostering a sustainable open-source geoscience ecosystem.
🌟 How You Can Help
Every contribution counts! Whether you're using GemPy for your projects or you believe in the transformative power of open-source for advancing scientific understanding, we need your support. Join us to ensure that GemPy continues to grow and serve the global community. Your sponsorship will directly impact the development and sustainability of GemPy.
