I contribute to @SOBotics, which is an organization that creates chatbots to help moderating Stack Overflow.
My largest project is SOBotics/Guttenberg, a bot that finds plagiarism on Stack Overflow. It is hosted on my VPSs, which cost about 15$/month. These servers host some other SOBotics-related stuff like the website as well.
The money from sponsors will go into SOBotics projects first.
