GitHub Sponsors Profile
Launched in 2013 in the United States, Falling Fruit (https://fallingfruit.org) is an online platform dedicated to sharing information on fruit trees, edible plants and other free food sources. The collaborative map - which now extends to millions of sites in thousands of cities around the world - helps individuals and organizations recover food that would otherwise be wasted. By drawing attention to the existing abundance of our city streets, Falling Fruit seeks to promote the cultivation and creation of public and edible urban spaces.
Our website, mobile app, database, and API require time and money to keep online. We are seeking financial support so that we can keep the project alive while pursuing exciting new initiatives, like:
Predicting and publishing harvest calendars for cities worldwide
Harmonizing thousands of city tree inventories
Mapping ecologically-sensitive areas where foraging is not permitted
Documenting and publishing our API for 3rd party use
... and so much more!
So thanks for your support :)
