Hi! 👋
I'm Emma from Nairobi Kenya. I am a 🤓Software Engineer, 🐍Data scientist, ✍️Tech writer, and 👩💻Goggle Women Tech Makers Ambassador. I am passionate about open source, community building, and mentoring women in the tech ecosystem. I enjoy documenting what I learn through writing tech blogs and building and contributing to tech communities both online and offline. I also enjoy the art of public speaking.
Currently, I am working on three projects:
👉 Open SourceHer - Building a tech community for women in open source and teaching women to get involved in open source. The main goal is to recruit as many women as possible to start participating and involving themselves in open source. According to PwC’s Women in Tech report (2017), Open source communities are even more male-dominated - women never make up more than 10% of their contributors and participants. I believe in Open source for all. For a more equitable and creative digital economy, it is essential to make open source more accessible to women because it is pervasive and used by all developers at some time.
👉 CodeHer Mentorship Program - This is a free program that is geared toward offering free mentorship to women transitioning into the tech ecosystem. The goal is to diminish the fear and notion most women have while transitioning into tech that "tech is a male-dominated field and that it is hard for a woman to thrive in it" by offering help, peer-to-peer learning, and being surrounded by people who share common challenges giving a neutral platform of expression.
👉TechItGirl Podcast - This is a podcast bringing together women experts in the tech industries to share their success stories as well as their challenges and what they would have done differently and encourage other women to be consistent and keep their heads up.
Supporting me on GitHub directly supports my ongoing efforts to make the best out of these projects and fulfill my goals for every project. It will help me achieve my goal of introducing 10000+ women to the tech industry.
