David cut his programming chops making games on a Commodore 64 and Apple II in the Westbrook Junior High School library. In recent years. he has focussed on Bluetooth LE beacons, leading the effort to move the technology beyond iOS with the widely used Android Beacon Library. He has worked as an independent consultant for 5 years, augmenting and maintaining the library as a volunteer side project.
Sponsorship is critical to improve the library with changes that require more than a casual time commitment:
Add better support for Kotlin including syntactic sugar, coroutines and data binding
Streamline the API to make it easier to use for the most common use cases and for novice users
Improve support for platform-specific differences, especially on less common phone models
Add support for Bluetooth 5 features like long range beaconing
