I've been a FreeBSD committer since 2004, and over the years have worn a number of hats, including Security Officer (7 years) and Core Team member (2 years). In 2006 I started working towards getting FreeBSD working on Amazon EC2, with the first successful boot in 2010; from April 2015 onwards the FreeBSD/EC2 platform has been included in FreeBSD release builds.
I continue to be the maintainer of the FreeBSD/EC2 platform -- ensuring support for new instance types and features and making improvements (e.g. flavoured AMIs) when I have time -- and starting in November 2023 I am also the Release Engineering Lead for FreeBSD, building weekly snapshots and managing releases.
My "day job" is running Tarsnap (https://www.tarsnap.com/), a company I founded in 2006; but having "paid hours" for my FreeBSD work will allow me to spend more time on it.
