Sponsorship will be used to continue to support the development of vlcj, and related projects, well into the future.
vlcj has always kept pace with new versions of the native VLC media player and the LibVLC native library. VLC is due for a new major release with significant changes made to LibVLC. Updating vlcj to support new major releases of LibVLC is often a major undertaking, requiring significant time and development effort to fully integrate, test and support.
Sponsorship would therefore be used to focus on supporting changes needed for these new major releases of LibVLC, testing, updating documentation and tutorials, and other general development needs of the project.
A medium term goal of the project is to replace JNA with an FFI solution using JDK 17. This requires a huge amount of work. Sponsorship would be used to help keep this work going.
