Hi there and nice to meet you! 😁
I'm Ace, a full-stack developer and IT-student at university in Germany with a few years of hands-on development experience at several smaller IT-companies as well as open-source projects, one of them being Inkycal (yes, I'm the main person behind Inkycal 😉). In the web I only use my alias "Ace", which I have been using for quite some time. Only a few people on Github know my real name. A little bit of mystery is sometimes fun ;-)
I want to use the funding for Inkycal to make it the best open-source software to create awesome E-paper dashboards with my software.
Chances are, you've probably seen these e-paper displays in a Kindle e-book reader which resemble the look of paper, but are actually very thin and low power displays. There aren't many optimised software around for e-paper displays and those that do require some know-how in coding, which not everyone has. My aim with Inkycal is to provide a software which can be used with almost zero-coding and is highly optimised to make the most of these displays as they work fundamentally different from lcd/oled.
To make this the best open-source software for e-paper displays, funding is required:
✅ Purchasing more e-paper displays as new e-paper displays with more colours and higher update rates are released
✅ Development of new modules suggested by the community (yes, including you!)
✅ Maintenance costs to ensure Inkycal is reliable and bug-free
✅ Giveaways of Inkycal on special occasions
✅ Developing zero-code builds which can be used directly
✅ Creating custom hardware to make Inkycal even more compact and even more power-efficient
✅ Providing a dedicated sever webpage to configure Inkycal
✅ Creating tutorials on how to create your own modules
✅ Providing support via the Inkycal Discord server
💡 Fun facts about Inkycal:
📅 Inkycal came to life out of necessity to help me plan my day by having all the info I need in front of me without having to look it up, be it weather, news, appointments from my google calendar
🔌 Power-efficiency was always a priority, less power means less heat, less heat means a lower carbon-footprint and less costs of running Inkycal 24/7. As a result, Inkycal can run well even on a Raspberry Pi Zero!
🖼️ Inkycal was originally only supported by the 7.5" three-colour display, but now it supports many more models, colours and even grayscale e-paper displays
