a11yphant (pronounced [ˈɛlifənt]) teaches developers the basics of web accessibility. Learn step-by-step by completing short, interactive coding challenges and quizzes.
What is a11yphant?
a11yphant is an interactive online web accessibility course. In this course you will explore web development topics from an accessibility perspective. For example, how do you ensure that assistive technologies such as screen readers can interact with the website? Or what is the purpose of different semantic HTML elements? These are some of the things you will learn by writing meaningful markup and completing quizzes.
Different accessibility topics are broken down into short challenges. On a11yphant, each challenge consists of coding levels and multiple-choice quizzes. Each level teaches you one thing at a time. Our evaluation gives you detailed feedback on our success criteria. If you struggle to solve a challenge, hints will help you.

a11yphant started as a master's project by six students at the University of Applied Sciences in Salzburg, Austria. As we hope to make the world more inclusive, we continue to develop a11yphant as an open source project. By supporting us, you help us to continue to:

The motivation behind a11yphant
In an ideal world, all websites would be designed and developed so that everyone can use them. Unfortunately, many websites do not comply with web accessibility guidelines. As a result, people with impairments and disabilities are particularly excluded from using them. One of the main problems is that many developers don't know enough about web accessibility. a11yphant wants to improve this situation by giving them a tool to learn accessibility in a fun, interactive way.
